UMPG to administer Irving Berlin catalog

The Universal Music Publishing Group will administer the music publishing catalog of Irving Berlin -- the songwriter who penned such perennials as "White Christmas," "There's No Business Like Show Business," "Puttin' On The Ritz" and the "God Bless America" -- for rights outside of North America.According to the announcement by Paul Connolly, UMPG's president of Europe & United Kingdom, along with Berlin's daughters Mary Ellin Barrett, Linda Emmet and Elizabeth Peters who partly manage the songwriter's trust, UMPG takes over administration for most of the catalog throughout the territory effective immediately, with other songs included later.According to ASCAP, "White Christmas" is the most recorded holiday song ever, with well over 500 versions in dozens of languages.Over Berlin's 60-year career he wrote 1,500 songs, 19 Broadway shows and earned nine Oscar nominations and one win. His chart-topping songs have been interpreted by the likes of Sinatra, Streisand, Garland, Merman, Jolson, Crosby and Billie Holiday, among countless others.Berlin's songs, said Connolly in a statement, "truly transcend generations and they're woven into the very fabric of our culture." Freestyle Ski Champion Sarah Burke Dies

Sarah Burke Canadian freestyle skier Sarah Burke died Thursday after she crashed on the training run a week ago, People reviews. She was 29. Burke have been inside a coma since her Jan. 11 accident around the superpipe in Park City, Utah -- exactly the same superpipe which former professional snowboarder Kevin Pearce experienced a significant distressing brain injuries that ended his competitive career. She sustained irreversible brain damage due to deficiencies in oxygen and bloodstream following cardiac event. Burke died "quietly encircled by individuals she loved," her family stated inside a statement, acquired by People. "The household expresses their sincere gratitude for that worldwide outpouring of support they've received all the folks Sarah touched." Burke was considered a pioneer in her own sport, and won gold medals during the cold months X-Games and World Freestyle Skiing Titles.

Bethenny Frankel Calls Jill Zarin A Survivor

Recently, her former NY City co-star, Jill Zarin, claimed responsibility for discovering Bethenny for Bravo, as the brunette reality star gears up to move on with Season 3 of her spin-off show, Bethenny Ever After, on February 20 at 9 PM EST/PST. But, when given the opportunity to hit back a reporter at Saturdays Television Critics Association Winter Session asked Bethenny if she had any advice for Jill, who was axed from the upcoming RHONYC cast the new mom took the high road. Jill Zarin is definitely a survivor and she is definitely well to do and I dont think shes worried about finding a job, Bethenny said. Its difficult She was on the show for years In many of the [Real Housewives] cities people are only on for one or two seasons. It just happens they make it a little fresher and, Im sure shell find what exactly shes looking for. Bethenny said she can understand that Jill might be a hurt by being cut from RHONYC, while watching the Skinnygirl move on. It probably just stings a little bit, its a little bit difficult and she has her own way of dealing with it, Bethenny said. Im sure its difficult a little bit for her to watch whats going on for me. As for Bethennys own difficulties, including ones in her marriage to Jason Hoppy, shell be sharing them in the new season of Bethenny Ever After. I just turned 41, and to be perfectly honest, I unintentionally crammed everything in. I got pregnant, I got married and I sold my business, or part of my business, and now were just settling into what married life really is, without the excitement of the wedding and the baby and we come from totally different backgrounds and were going through it. Im in therapy, Bethenny said. Ive always been good at business, but I always struggled with relationships based on my background. And we kind of get into that this season.
